Cade Horton vs Drake Baldwin: Who Should Win NL ROY?
I previously talked about the Cal Raleigh vs Aaron Judge debate, and with a total of nine votes, you guys unanimously decided that Cal Raleigh should win AL MVP. But today, there’s a new debate to settle. Who should win the NL ROY (Rookie of the Year)? Should it be the pitching sensation Cade Horton with the 4th lowest ERA among all NL pitchers? Or should it be the hot hitter in Drake Baldwin with the highest fWAR among all rookies? Today, I’m settling the debate once and for all.
Why Cade Horton Should Be ROY:
I already mentioned that he has the 4th lowest ERA in the National League (2.67). He also has a 1.08 WHIP. The 5th lowest in the NL. He also allows less than 1 HR per game. 0.8 HR/9 to be exact. Don’t forget about the 11-4 record! He also has 6 pitches that he has in his arsenal. His FIP is .359. That is .041 better than the league average in MLB. His BAA (batting average against) is .219. That is .026 better than league average.
Why Drake Baldwin Should Be ROY:
I already mentioned he has the highest fWAR (FanGraphs Wins Above Replacement) among all rookies. He also has the 2nd highest batting average among any rookie. (.274) Not to mention the 2nd highest OPS of all rookies. His OPS+ is 126. That’s 26 higher than the league average. Drake Baldwin is also a gold glove caliber catcher. He has a .995 fielding percentage, and baseball savant puts him in the 92 percentile when it comes to blocking pitches.
Who should win ROY? In my book, Cade Horton, but I’m gonna let you decide by voting in the poll below.
