Reviewing 6 MLB Blockbuster Trades

Reviewing 6 MLB Blockbuster Trades
From MLB.com

Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com made his yearly Black Friday trade ideas article, and it’s time for me to review his wacky ideas. Let’s look at the proposed trades.

(His proposal)

1) The most Cys-mic swap of all

Mets receive: LHP Tarik Skubal

Tigers receive: RHP Paul Skenes

Pirates receive: SS/OF/2B Jett Williams (Mets’ No. 3 prospect), RHP Jonah Tong (Mets’ No. 4 prospect), 3B/1B Jacob Reimer (Mets’ No. 6 prospect), OF Max Clark (Tigers’ No. 2 prospect), SS Bryce Rainer (Tigers’ No. 4 prospect)

(My proposal)

1) The most Cys-mic swap of all

Mets receive: LHP Tarik Skubal

Tigers receive: RHP Paul Skenes

Pirates receive: OF Max Clark (Tigers’ No. 2 prospect), SS Bryce Rainer (Tigers’ No. 4 prospect) RHP Nolan McLean RHP (Mets’ No 1. prospect), Will Watson (Mets‘ No. 11 prospect)

Thoughts:
I think that Anthony’s deal was a little too prospect heavy, and in his deal the Pirates got the best of the deal. But overall, a pretty fair deal. Remember, Skenes and Skubal are both CY winners.

(His proposal)

2) The I-95 interchange

Orioles receive: LHP MacKenzie Gore, C Keibert Ruiz

Phillies receive: C Adley Rutschman

Nationals receive: DH/OF Nick Castellanos, SS Aidan Miller (Phillies’ No. 2 prospect), 3B Carson DeMartini (Phillies’ No. 13 prospect), C Caden Bodine (Orioles’ No. 10 prospect)

(My proposal)

2) The I-95 interchange

Orioles receive: LHP MacKenzie Gore

Phillies receive: C Adley Rutschman

Nationals receive: SS Aidan Miller (Phillies’ No. 2 prospect), 3B Carson DeMartini (Phillies’ No. 13 prospect), C Caden Bodine (Orioles’ No. 10 prospect)

Thoughts:
I think that adding Casstellanos to that deal was a little much for the Nationals, but I also think that the Nationals will not give up Ruiz. I’m so so on the Phillies giving up Miller, but I think they can deal with it.

(His proposal)

3) The Bux moves here

Reds get: OF Byron Buxton

Astros get: RHP Brady Singer

Twins get: SS Tyson Lewis (Reds’ No. 3 prospect), OF Mason Neville (Reds’ No. 13 prospect), C Walker Janek (Astros’ No. 4 prospect), RHP Cole Hertzler (Astros’ No. 29 prospect)

(My proposal)

3) The Bux moves here

Reds get: OF Byron Buxton, 3B Ryan Fitzgerald

Astros get: RHP Brady Singer

Twins get: SS Tyson Lewis (Reds’ No. 3 prospect), OF Mason Neville (Reds’ No. 13 prospect), RHP Ty Floyd (Reds’ No 29 prospect), RHP Cole Hertzler (Astros No. 29 prospect), 2B Nick Monistere (Astros‘ No. 30 prospect)

Thoughts:
This trade was a little weired. The Astros were giving up A LOT for a pitcher with a 4.00+ ERA. I also figured that the Reds were willing to give up a lower level prospect for a player (who’s struggling) in the majors.

(His proposal)

4) Call it a mini (Minny?) Mookie trade

Dodgers get: OF Jarren Duran

Red Sox get: RHP Joe Ryan

Twins get: OF Zyhir Hope (Dodgers’ No. 2 prospect), LHP Jackson Ferris (Dodgers’ No. 6 prospect), 3B Chase Harlan (Dodgers’ No. 18 prospect), RHP Marcus Phillips (Red Sox’s No. 11 prospect)

(My proposal)

4) Call it a mini (Minny?) Mookie trade

Dodgers get: OF Jarren Duran

Red Sox get: RHP Joe Ryan

Twins get: OF Zyhir Hope (Dodgers’ No. 2 prospect), RHP Marcus Phillips (Red Sox’s No. 11 prospect) RHP Jedixson Paez (Red Sox‘s No. 20 prospect)

Thoughts:
I wanted the Red Sox to give up a little more for Joe Ryan. I also don’t think the Dodgers would give up that much for Duran. I mean, that’s a lot of top prospects for Duran.

(His proposal)

5) Mariners get: Utility Brendan Donovan

Mets get: 3B Nolan Arenado, RHP/LHP Jurrangelo Cijntje (Mariners’ No. 8 prospect)

Cardinals get: OF Lazaro Montes (Mariners’ No. 3 prospect), RHP Camden Lohman (Mets’ No. 30 prospect)

(My proposal)

5) Mariners get: Utility Brendan Donovan

Mets get: 3B Nolan Arenado, RHP/LHP Jurrangelo Cijntje (Mariners’ No. 8 prospect), cash

Cardinals get: OF Lazaro Montes (Mariners’ No. 3 prospect), 2B Brock Rodden (Mariners’ No. 22 prospect), RHP Camden Lohman (Mets’ No. 30 prospect), PTBNL (big leaguer)

Thoughts:
I think the Cardinals will want more for Donovan, and that’s why I threw in the other prospect. I also think they want some big leaguer back for Arenado. I’m not sure who it would be, but probably a 3B of some kind.

(His proposal)

6) Brewing up a blockbuster

Brewers get: 2B Brandon Lowe, 1B/DH Yandy Díaz, LHP Cam Caminiti (Braves’ No. 1 prospect), OF Diego Tornes (Braves’ No. 14 prospect)

Braves get: RHP Freddy Peralta

Rays get: SS Joey Ortiz, SS Tate Southisene (Braves’ No. 3 prospect), RHP Blake Burkhalter (Braves’ No. 11 prospect)

(My proposal)

6) Brewing up a blockbuster

Brewers get: 2B Brandon Lowe, 1B/DH Yandy Díaz, OF Diego Tornes (Braves’ No. 14 prospect) RHP Elison Joseph (Braves’ No. 30 prospect)

Braves get: RHP Freddy Peralta

Rays get: SS Joey Ortiz, Utility Vidal Brujan, SS Tate Southisene (Braves’ No. 3 prospect), RHP Blake Burkhalter (Braves’ No. 11 prospect)

Thoughts:
I don’t think the Braves would give up Cam Caminiti at all in a trade. I also don’t think that the Brewers have any leverage. It just leaked that they are having payroll issues, which means they are inclined to deal Freddy Peralta. I could also see the Rays having an interest Vidal Brujan, and kind of re-working his swing. The Rays do that a lot.

There was a massive 7 team trade for #7, but I decided not to cover it since it’s absurd, ridiculous, not even possible to happen, and you can read it for yourself. Thanks for reading!
