The trade market is moving! Between the Rafael Devers trade a month and a half ago, the Josh Naylor trade yesterday, and the Gregory Soto trade yesterday, the trade market is starting to rumble. Now we have a new trade. Ryan McMahon to the Yankees. Here’s the scoop from Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com later reports that one of the two prospects is left-hander Griffin Herring (Yankees number 8 prospect).

The other player headed to the Rockies is right-handed pitcher Josh Grosz (Yankees number 21 prospect), according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

The Yankees are getting all of Ryan’s remaining salary, per Joel Sherman of the Ney York Post.

The Yankees will have to open up a 40-man roster spot to make the transaction official.

The Analysis:

The Rockies:

Ryan has been an average at best player all season, but he’s been a previous All-Star. Since he has about $32 million left on his contract over the next few years, this opens a bit of salary for the Rockies going into the offseason. I really like Griffin Herring partly because his slider is nasty. Graded a 60/80 on the scale, it should be closer to a 70/80. His velocity for the slider is in the mid 80’s. His fastball can touch 95 with, and lives around 92. Josh Grosz is a coin flip with an awesome name. His grades are as follows: Fastball: 55 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 45 | Overall: 40. He’s had a nice comeback story, though, after getting selected in the 11th round of the MLB Draft. He‘s 6’4 and he can touch 98 with his fastball occasionally.

The Yankees:

A move like this seemed inevitable because of their recent actions. (Moving Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to 2B, and designating DJ Lemahieu for assignment.) Sources tell me that there was a “gap in trade talks” between the Yankees, and the Diamondbacks for Eugenio Suárez. McMahon is slashing .217/.314/.403, but I believe he can turn it around. So do the Yankees. He’s a perfect lefty hitter, but righty fielder combo. He’s also a free agent in 28’. Don’t be too surprised if the Yankees try to extend him because their 3B situation is looking gloomy. He‘s 6’2, and he was a 2nd round draft pick. This is also his first time being traded. What’s interesting is that his hard-hit rate, and barrel percentages are up, so he’a actually getting a bit unlucky.
