The Downfall of the Dodgers
In 2024, the Dodgers won the World Series in 5 games over the New York Yankees. This was supposed to be the start of an incredible dynasty. However, the dynasty never fully formed. Today, I’ll be going through the their 2024, 2025, and 2026 postseason and how this year upset Dodgers fans in the worst possible way.
In 2024, the Dodgers mowed just about everybody down in the playoffs except for a close call in the NLDS vs the Padres where they were victorious in the series 3-2. They then beat the Mets in less than seven games and advanced to the World Series where the New York Yankees were waiting for them. While it was supposed to be a competitive series, the Dodgers actually handled the Yankees with great ease and finished them off in 5 games, winning the World Series and telling the whole league that they could be dominant for years to come.
In 2025, they swept the Reds in the Wild Card series and, while they weren’t considered the best team in the MLB, they were dangerous and couldn’t be underestimated. The Dodgers kept on annihilating their way through the postseason beating the Phillies 3-1 in the series, and sweeping the Brewers in the NLCS to conformably make it to the Fall Classic. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays fought their way past the Mariners into the World Series to face the superteam. While the Jays had a better regular season record than the Dodgers, man experts thought the Dodgers as the favorites to win and predicted they would win easily. Adding to that, the Blue Jays’ players were more tired after having to push and shove their way into the WS. To everyone's surprise, the Blue Jays actually scared all Dodgers fans. They came out firing winning the first game. It went back and forth until the fifth game where Toronto won to put them up 3-2 in the series. One more win and they would be World Series champions. However, the Dodgers actually won the next game and came back to win the following match securing their back-to-back World Series wins.
Coming into the 2026 postseason, the Dodgers were trying to be the first NL team ever to three-peat (win three World Series’ in a row). The Dodgers were matched up against the Braves and easily won the series 3-1. Now, the Brewers, the team the Dodgers were facing in the NLCS were the better team, but most people figured the mega team would prevail like they did in 2024 and 2025. However, the Dodgers lost game after game after game after game and ended up being swept like the Brewers were in 2025. This took the entire media by surprise as the Brewers went on to effortlessly triumph over the Rays in the 2026 World Series.
While this might not be the biggest fall off for the Dodgers, it nevertheless signify’s that their team can be beat and that the Brewers might just be building a super team on their own with half the budget. And even though the Dodgers are not the villain of baseball, they have fallen off baseball’s champion’s throne and a new team may have just seized control with a much better ball club.
